Seagrass and microbial network

May 2026: On Earth Day, the lab was awarded funding for our collaborative project to develop AI tools to guide seagrass restoration using microbiome inoculations.

Revive & Restore's Climate Resilience Fund, will support two years of work to train and test our microbial coalescence modeling approach. See a bit about the work HERE.



Scarlett, Israt, and Molly

Mar 2026: Welcome to our first undergrad research cohort in the TIDAL Lab.

Scarlett, Israt, and Molly have joined the lab. With varied backgrounds in Applied Mathematics, Data Science, and Biology, they will be using a variety of methods to build libraries of fungal cultures, genomes, and traits.

Feb 2026: Our work is featured in the W&M School of Computing, Data Science, & Physics.

August 2025: We are recruiting up to 2 PhD positions to start Fall 2026.

Potential topics include marine fungal diversity, microbial dispersal and microbiome assembly, but there is a lot of flexibility to pursue topics of interest that align with lab goals. I am particularly interested in scholars with experience in bioinformatics, metagenomics, and/or data science techniques.

June 2025: Went to the 2025 Mycological Society of America annual meeting in Madison, WI. Austen Miller presented his work on the foliar fungi of pando, and Geoff presented his work on soil community assembly.
